Released August 6, 2024
Veterans understand their job is to protect this nation and to serve those they lead. As Vice President, Governor Walz will do both, and the nation will be better for it.
Washington, DC National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) applauds Vice President Harris’s decision to select Minnesota Governor and Army National Guard veteran Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 Presidential election.
In a statement, retired Navy Rear Admiral Michael Smith, Founder and President of NSL4A, said: “The retired Generals, Admirals, veterans, and public servants of National Security Leaders for America are thrilled that Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen to add a veteran’s perspective to the ticket.” Smith noted that throughout his career, Governor Tim Walz demonstrated the values he learned during his 24 years in the Army National Guard, adding, “As both a congressman and as governor of Minnesota, he applied the principle of service leadership he honed as a Command Sergeant Major, whether he was fighting to ensure that every child in Minnesota would have consistent access to healthy food or leading the way on landmark bipartisan legislation to prevent veteran suicide, broaden veterans’ healthcare and educational assistance.”
As the longest-serving veteran to become a vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz provides a career veteran perspective in partnering with Vice President Harris in her campaign to be the next President of the United States.
“Veterans understand their job is to protect this nation and to serve those they lead. As Vice President, Governor Walz will do both, and the nation will be better for it,” Smith added.
