NSL4A Responds to Former President Trump's Promise to Evangelical Christians
Released July 30, 2024
The only way to combat any threat to our democratic republic is by voting.
Washington, DC During a speech to conservative evangelical Christians the past weekend, former President Trump said, "Vote for me; you're not going to have to do it ever again. It's true." He reiterated this during an interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News.
This statement aligns with a litany of behavior by the Republican Presidential Nominee, making it apparent that if elected again, Donald Trump might never leave office. His lifetime of lies, deceit, and cheating, coupled with his autocratic behavior, undermines our democracy along with the values and principles our Founding Fathers set for America. His vision to deconstruct the Constitution so he can enact extremist ideologies or indulge in self-serving political theatrics is not democracy, nor is it American.
"Our nation requires leaders who embody the values we expect in our public life—honesty, decency, compromise, and standing up for one another as Americans," said Retired Navy Rear Admiral Michael Smith, Founder and President of National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A), adding "The only way to combat any threat and vigilantly guard our democracy is by voting.”
As a pro-democracy organization, NSL4A believes voting is vital to maintaining a healthy, functioning democracy. It empowers citizens, promotes accountability, and ensures that the government remains responsive to the people's needs and desires. No one running for office should ever dissuade people from voting. By telling Americans they do not need to vote for any reason, Donald Trump further demonstrates he is unqualified to be President.
We call on all Americans to cast their vote to only those individuals devoted to the defense of our Constitution. Our democracy depends on it."
